LATEST NEWS UPDATE 2021
GOLD + is here! See your latest Newsletter for details and request an application form
from the Office.
Congratulations are due to Hazel Berrisford on completing her GOLD+....... The first of
our 5 year members to do so!
It was with deep sadness we announced that Mr Laurie Young left us just before Christmas 2018.
As those of you that have been members of The Discovery Award will know, he, together with a few friends was instrumental in founding our Award and was heavily involved with it for most of his life!
It is nice to know that so many were able to say their 'goodbyes' at Birkhill Cemetery in Dundee!
One thing for sure, Laurie will be remembered all around the world for his help in giving us
The Discovery Award, thank you Laurie!
Early in 2019 we learned that Mrs Shirley Forbes left us too.. Shirley was another of our founding members who worked tiredlessly as The Treasurer for The Award and took on many other roles for a great many years. She will also be very sadly missed by all who knew her.
We had to bid farewell to our Patron The Dowager Countess of Harrowby this spring, suddenly , after a very short illness. 'Janie' as she liked us to call her was a warm, kind and wonderful lady who seemed never to say no to anyone! Although Janie wasnt our Patron for long, she was so encouraging and supportive and most generous with her time.
Thank you Janie for all you did for your Charities, everyone you met and especially
The Discovery Award England.
The next Management Committee Meeting will be held in Nottingham on Monday 3rd February 2020.
If you have any items for discussion, please contact the committee via the contact page and let us know. As usual you may attend the meeting to put your point directly to the Committee, but please let us know to expect you!
If you wish to join-in at our Annual Get together at HautBois this year from Friday 6th September - Saturday 7th, please ask for an application form. The closing date is very soon!

We have a new addition to our range of materials...a new booklet to help with your choices when choosing a challenge for the Service in the Community Section. Not only does it give you a list of challenges already undertaken by Discoverers, but some useful tips and advice on what you need to think about before committing yourself.
You can order one from the office when you order other goods, or separately of course, for only 50p!
If you would rather receive information and renewal forms via e-mail, please let us know as this will help to reduce our overhead costs!
As you know, we do not have a telephone number for the office but you can always get in touch via our email address or the contact us page on this web site. You will be contacted as soon as possible. We are a membership organisation and run entirely by volunteers, so please be patient, orders may take up to 2 weeks to arrive with you.
Because your organisation is run by members for members on a voluntary basis we do need your help from time to time. So if you have particular skills or ideas to bring to YOUR organisation, please consider helping on the committee, either by joining us or on an ad hoc basis. If you would like to know more about us, just ask, but we do need help. If you or you know someone in your group who might be able to help us, just come and talk to us first, all expenses paid. However, it is preferred that only one person in a group is put forward for the committee in line with the Federation of Discovery Award's constitution, although exceptions can be made.
